State Assemblymember Pedro Nava, the Surfrider Foundation, the Audubon Society and U.S. EPA to Hold Press Conference Tomorrow to Announce Legislative Package to Protect Our Community From Oil Spills

Santa Barbara - Assemblymember Pedro Nava, Chair of the Joint Committee on Emergency Services and Homeland Security to hold press conference to announce two legislative initiatives to protect our community and the environment from land based oil spills on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 12 Noon at the Santa Barbara County Courthouse, located at 1100 Anacapa Street in Santa Barbara.

“As a former deputy district attorney it is imperative that state and local law enforcement officials and state agencies have all the necessary tools to pursue serial polluters in California. It is unacceptable that the most egregious violators such as Greka Energy can continue polluting for years and not be held accountable and forced to clean-up their act.”

The initiatives are in response to a series of catastrophic on-shore oil spills in Santa Barbara County by Greka Oil in which more than 500,000 gallons of crude oil have been spilled during the last 8 years and almost 300,000 during the past several months by a multinational energy company.
