Outstanding Community Members Honored at 4th Annual African-American Heritage Awards

Assemblymember Juan Arambula honors Valley African-American Leaders

Fresno, CA - Hundreds of community members and local leaders turned out today to honor the Central Valley’s finest African-American leaders. Assemblymemebr Juan Arambula (D-Fresno) hosted the 4th Annual African-American Heritage Awards that recognizes outstanding African-American leaders for their service and contributions to the community.

"These exceptional individuals have gone above and beyond to give back to their communities and have defined what it means to be a leader not only in the African-American community, but to our Valley," said Assemblymember Arambula. "I am proud to recognize these outstanding individuals in our community."

This is the fourth year Assemblymember Arambula has hosted the event. Local organization and leaders throughout Arambula’s 31st Assembly District submitted nominations for the distinguished awards.

Winners for the African-American Heritage Awards included: Community Volunteer: Dr. Edward Mosley, Public Safety: Rey Wallace, Medical: Willie Whisenhunt, Small Business Owner: Lawrence T. Brookter, Legal/Justice: Judge Alan M. Simpson, Education: Cheryl Fowlkes, Non-Profit Employee: Audrey Riley, Youth: Gregory Williams.

Assemblymember Arambula also presented a Special Tribute Award to Earl R. Meyers, Jr. for his numerous contributions and his more than 35 years of dedication to education and music.
