Assemblymember Juan Arambula Named to Special Committee on Water

Special hearing is called by Speaker to discuss water.

Sacramento, CA – Assemblymember Juan Arambula (D-Fresno), along with eleven other Assemblymembers, have been named to a Special Committee on Water and will head back to Sacramento to begin work on developing water policy for the State of California.

The new Special Committee on Water, chaired by Assemblymember Lois Wolk (D-Davis) includes all the members of the Assembly Working Group on Water along with newly-appointed Republican members.  Arambula is the only Democrat from the Central Valley named to the special committee.  According to Arambula, the committee was established especially for the special legislative session on water and will compliment the initial work done by the working group.

The first task for the new committee will be a hearing on Thursday, October 4th at 1:30 p.m.  The Special Committee on Water will be given an overview on California’s water infrastructure and delivery systems.

“Fresno and the Central Valley need to be represented during these hearings to ensure the valley has an ample supply of quality water,” said Arambula.  “It is my hope we can work on policies that keep water in the Central Valley so we can sustain our thriving agricultural economy.”

In addition to Wolk and Arambula, the committee will consist of Assembmembers Mike Eng (D-Monterey Park), Mike Feuer (D-Los Angeles), Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar), Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael), Rick Keene (R-Chico), Paul Krekorian (D-Burbank), John Laird (D- Santa Cruz), Doug LaMalfa (R-Redding), Bill Maze (R-Visalia) and Mary Salas (D-Chula Vista).

The hearing will be 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 4 in Room 4202 of the State Capitol Building.
