(Sacramento, CA) – Assemblymember Nicole M. Parra (D-Hanford) was honored today with the “Legislator of the Year” Award by the National Latina Business Women Association (NLBWA). The award was presented at the NLBWA’s Annual Conference.
“I am honored to receive this award from the National Latina Business Women Association,” said Assemblymember Parra. “The NLBWA has been instrumental in creating growth and opportunity in communities throughout the Central Valley and California. They encourage and foster the entrepreneurial spirit so vital to our future economic growth and vitality.”
Parra was praised for her considerable contributions to her community and small business. Assemblymember Parra has emerged as one of the Central Valley's most prominent political leaders, making public safety a main priority. Assemblywoman Parra has authored several key bills aimed at strengthening and expanding Megan’s Law in California, and recently passed legislation that makes it easier for prosecutors to prove implied malice, a necessary element of second degree murder, when a driving under the influence (DUI) offense results in a fatality. Parra has also worked tirelessly on efforts to accelerate economic development and secure more jobs for struggling communities in the 30th Assembly District, and throughout the state.
NLBWA''s mission is to promote, develop and support the rapid growth of Latina business owners and professionals. The national organization supports the development of chapters throughout the country and these chapters deliver programs and services enabling greater success for this critical, but underrepresented market.
