Assemblywoman Parra Given “Legislative Leadership” Award by California Building Industry Association

(Sacramento, CA) – Assemblywoman Nicole M. Parra (D-Hanford) was honored today with the “Legislative Leadership” Award by the California Building Industry Association (CBIA).  The award was presented at the CBIA’s Annual Meeting and Commercial Real Estate Summit.

“To receive this prestigious award from the California Building Industry Association is truly an honor,” said Assemblymember Parra. “The CBIA is the leading force in providing affordable housing to communities throughout the Central Valley and California.  They have been at the forefront of much of our State’s economic growth and vitality.”

Parra was praised for her years of effort on behalf of infrastructure financing and school facilities funding in the 30th Assembly District and throughout the State.  Parra has introduced legislation this year (AB 1545) to ease the process for rural schools attempting to apply for hardship funding from the state.  The bill is a follow up to legislation introduced last session by Assemblymember Parra that aids low-wealth school districts in completing the construction of school facilities.  AB 1545 requires the State Office of Public School Construction to assess the current hardship funding scheme and recommend changes, including those to specifically help low-wealth school districts.

“California homebuilders are grateful for Assemblymember Nicole Parra’s leadership on issues and policies that affect the state’s economy and expand opportunities for homeownership,” said Tim Coyle, CBIA’s Senior Vice President.

The California Building Industry Association is a statewide trade association representing more than 6,700 companies including homebuilders, trade contractors, architects, engineers, designers, suppliers, and other industry professionals. According to a recent study, the homebuilding industry contributes more than $60 billion a year to the state's economy and generates 525,000 jobs.  For more information, visit www.cbia.org.
