Assembly Member Anna Caballero Applauds Housing Loans to Soledad & Greenfield

Sacramento – Assembly Member Anna Caballero today congratulated the Monterey County Housing Authority and C.H.I.S.P.A. (Community Housing Improvement Systems and Planning Association), for their success in obtaining loans from the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) to build housing in the cities of Soledad and Greenfield.

Assembly Member Caballero, former Mayor of the City of Salinas, has been a long time champion of affordable housing for working families.

“I applaud the efforts of the Housing Authority and CHISPA in seeking out opportunities to obtain state funds for much- needed housing in our area,” said Caballero.  “These state funds will help Soledad and Greenfield develop much needed safe and affordable housing for families.”

Funds will come from the 2002 state housing bond, which created the Joe Serna, Jr. Farmworker Housing Grant Program.  The program provides low-interest deferred payment loans for a variety of affordable housing costs, including new construction and the acquisition and rehabilitation of deteriorated rental housing projects.

The program will award $600,000 for new construction of rental housing at the Vineyard Green Townhomes project in the city of Greenfield.  In Soledad, the program will fund loans totaling $3.5 million for new construction of rental housing at the Benito Street Affordable Housing Community Project.

“Many people right here in the Salinas Valley worked hard to pass both the 2002 and 2006 housing bond funds,” said Caballero.  “We have a critical housing need here.  It’s really important that south Monterey County share in the benefits of these statewide efforts.”
