Select Committee on Youth Violence Prevention The mission of the Select Committee on Youth Violence Prevention is to study youth violence from a public and community health perspective and develop strategies to help local communities. The committee will gather information from leaders in the prevention arena as well as from community-based and youth-serving organizations; youth; and public health, social services, public safety and education experts. We will do this by holding a series of hearings around the state that address various themes: prevention and intervention strategies; roles for schools and the education community; vocational and job training programs for youth; community-based programs that strengthen the skills of families and youth; and programs to aid re-entry of previously-violent youth into their communities. The committee will produce a youth violence prevention “tool-kit” that will both aid the Legislature and the Administration in identifying legislative and budget changes to support the work of communities seeking solutions to youth violence; and provide information to communities about successful, tested approaches that have been effective in reducing youth violence.
