Support For Public Schools Urged
In Weekly Democratic Radio Address
This week, I am
honored Assembly Speaker Núñez tapped me to deliver the Weekly
Democratic Radio Address. With the
new school year beginning across California, I speak in the address about the
contrast between back-to-school excitement and the challenges facing California’s schools. You can access the address in English or
Spanish as an MP3 file, or text-only, by clicking here: http://democrats.assembly.ca.gov/templates/ademmain.asp?articleid=283&zoneid=2

More On The Passage Of The Civil Rights Act Of 2005
The Legislature made the right decision to make
significant improvements to a significant civil rights law—the Unruh Act,
making clear for businesses and customers that discrimination in any form
is unacceptable, including discrimination based on sexual orientation,
gender identity or marital status.
With Governor Schwarzenegger’s signature, we will
strengthen for all Californians the Unruh Act, the centerpiece of
non-discrimination protections in public accommodations.
To learn more about the passage
of the bill, including some of my public comments and a surprise Republican
vote, take a look at this story in the Capitol
