Information, Prevention Keys to Controlling H1N1/Swine Flu
(Sacramento) – We all want to prevent the spread of the H1N1/Swine flu. Public health officials are doing everything they can and we must do our part, too. In situations like this prevention means more than just washing your hands…it means spreading accurate information. In this Assembly Access video Assemblymember Beall describes simple ways you can help prevent the spread of the H1N1 virus and provides a telephone number to the state’s multi-lingual hotline to learn even more.

AB 612 Requires Family Courts to Restrict Use of Pseudo Syndromes in Custody Cases
(Sacramento) – Assembly Bill 612, legislation from Assemblymember Jim Beall, Jr. (D-San Jose), outlawing unscientific “alienation’’ theories that have fueled bitter and expensive child custody battles, cleared its first hurdle on Tuesday when it was approved by the Assembly Committee on Judiciary. Supporting the measure at the hearing was award winning television star Nancy Lee Grahn (General Hospital’s Alexis Davis) and others. Read More...

Assemblymember Beall’s economic stimulus proposal to Congress
As a member of the California State Assembly, Chair of the Human Services Committee I support quick action on an economic stimulus plan for the families of this nation. The plan must benefit our middle-class and low-income workers, as well as, the large private firms our hard earned tax dollars are rescuing.

Shaping the Federal Economic Stimulus Bill
As a member of the California State Legislature, I am not directly involved in any discussions regarding the federal bail out. But, I am communicating and working with our local Congressional delegation on how an economic stimulus package should be structured to help our state and Assembly District 24.
California Passes Budget
Why is it so difficult to pass the budget?
Whenever I talk with voters, I've found they share a central concern: Why does the Legislature have so much trouble passing a budget on time?
Foster Care Advocates and Stakeholders Call for Overall System Reform
Sacramento - Recently Assembly Speaker Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles) joined me for a special hearing of the Assembly Select Committee on Foster Care, to listen to foster care advocates outline some of the best practices used to help families stay together and ensure the well-being of foster youth and families. As the Chair of the Foster Care Committee, I believe California needs to find solutions to the issues and challenges facing the state’s Foster Care System. There are approximately 74,000 children in California’s Foster Care System and fifty percent of the children who enter foster care are younger than age 5. I believe far too many children are trapped in the system and remain in foster care until they “age out” at 18.
