Sacramento – The California Legislative Women’s Caucus hosted the 20th annual “Woman of the Year” celebration on Monday, March 20, 2006. Eighty women representing 79 Assembly districts and the Lieutenant Governor’s office were honored for significant contributions to their communities.

A special recognition event was held on the floor of the Assembly. Dr. Barbara Dawson was selected by Assembly Member Joe Coto to represent the 23rd Assembly District.

Dr. Dawson, a retired educator, spent over 41 years in education as a teacher, counselor and administrator. Over 34 of those years were in San Jose schools. Dr. Dawson was also active in the community. She received over 60 certificates and plaques for commendations in recognition of services to the community.

First Lady Maria Shriver hosted a special exhibit on extraordinary California women at the California State History Museum after the ceremony. All the honorees photographs and biographies were featured at the Museum.
