Parents Invited To Learn About Internet Safety

On Sunday, May 13th at the Tech Museum of Innovation, representatives from the San Jose Police Department and the Silicon Valley Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force will be providing classes to parents on what is and isn't safe on the internet for their children.  The sessions will provide parents with information on popular web sites such as My Space, and discuss the dangers of chat rooms, web games and downloading free music and games. Parents will learn how to monitor their children's activity on the internet and ways to inform the children about the dangers of the internet.

The event was organized by the Office of Assemblymember Joe Coto.  “In this day and age, when we have over forty-five percent of all children in the United States using the internet, we need to take as many precautions as possible to keep them safe from predators,” said Coto.   “We’re fortunate to have a community that works together to protect our children”, he added.  Organizations that worked with Coto’s office to put the event together included the United States Department of Justice, who initiated this program, the San Jose Police Department, Silicon Valley Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Tech Museum and AT&T.   The cost of admission for all families attending the Tech Museum this Sunday is being provided by AT&T.
