Who:  Assembly Speaker Pro Tempore Sally Lieber (D-San Jose);  Efrain Coria, Chief Operating Officer, Gardner Family Health Network; Ignacio Perez, Chief Financial Officer, Gardner Family Health Network; Rhonda McClinton-Brown, Executive Director, Community Health Partnership of Santa Clara County; elected officials and women’s health care providers.

What:  Participants will speak out on the impact of the refusal of Senate Republicans to pass a timely and responsible budget.  Representatives from Gardner Family Health Network will highlight the health services to women and girls that are threatened with closure because of the delay of state payments.  The event will be held in front of the closed doors of the Gardner Health Center to dramatize the possibility of the clinics being closed seven days a week, not just on Sundays.

Background:  Sunday, August 19 will be the 50th day that California does not have an approved budget.  Even though the State Assembly passed a balanced budget on a bi-partisan basis with the support of Governor Schwarzenegger, Republicans in the State Senate continue to block passage.  The failure to pass the budget has caused the delay of millions of dollars in revenue to community health clinics such as those operated by Gardner Family Health Network.
