Assemblymember Ruskin’s Bill to Restore 30-Day Trial Period for Cell Phone Contracts to Be Heard in Assembly Utilities and Commerce Committee
AB 2622 will allow consumers to make sure coverage works for them
Assemblymember Ira Ruskin (D-Redwood City) announced that his AB 2622 which would allow consumers to make sure cell phone contracts work for them, will be heard in the Assembly Committee on Utilities and Commerce Thursday May 4, 2006.

“AB 2622 simply codifies one of the provisions from the original cell phone bill of rights that died at the CPUC. This key provision was in force in 2004 until the consumers of California suffered a setback that we are seeking to rectify,” Ruskin said.

This bill would require that cell phone providers extend a minimum 30-day grace period to customers during which the customer may rescind the agreement, without cost or penalty, if the customer finds that the service is unsatisfactory.

“I am proud to carry this legislation that is sponsored by the Consumer Federation, and is strongly supported by Attorney General Bill Lockyer, Public Utility Commissioner Geoffrey Brown, consumer groups, senior and labor organizations, and legal service groups,” Ruskin concluded.
