Ruskin’s Cloned Food Labeling Bill Passes Committee

SACRAMENTO –Assemblymember Ira Ruskin has introduced Assembly Bill 1100 to require that meat and milk products sold in California from cloned animals or their offspring be labeled as cloned. Yesterday, this bill passed out of the Assembly Health Committee with a margin of 12-5.

“Consumers want to be able to make the choice to avoid cloned food products,” said Assemblymember Ruskin.

AB 1100 differs from a similar measure pending in the Senate, because of a provision that allows for federal preemption, in compliance with the Unites States Constitution.
