A series of community office hours are being held this summer, bringing state services to neighborhood libraries in Newark, Union City, Milpitas, and Castro Valley.

Affordable Housing Fair

The free fair hosted federal, state, local, and non-profit organizations, which provided assistance in areas ranging from predatory lending to homeownership.
Student Civic Engagement Summit

The summit hosted a variety of workshops and sessions designed to inspire civic engagement and promote youth involvement in public service.
Green Building and Energy Efficiency Hearing

The hearing, chaired by Assemblymember Torrico, promoted green building energy efficiency, as well as energy conservation in both new and existing buildings.

College Preparation

“Paving the Path to College” aimed to provide advice to middle-school children and their parents, on how to prepare for higher education both academically and financially.

The “Cash for College” workshop also addressed financial concerns for students seeking higher education. Many students don’t realize that they qualify for Financial Aid programs such as Cal Grants, which can ease the burden of college costs on both students and parents. We offered two $500 scholarships to students who attended the event.

National Night Out is an important event designed to bring communities together to fight crime. We visited several communities in our district to join in the efforts to crack down on crime.

The Medicare Part D workshop, which took place at the Fremont Main Library, provided one-on-one assistance to Seniors to answer questions they had about the program. The workshop further assisted Seniors to choose a plan which met their needs, and enroll them on-site.
Affordable Housing

Our Housing Fair was an event dedicated to assist prospective homebuyers. Because the dream of owning a home has eluded many, we brought resources together which could help make that dream possible for low-income families and first time homebuyers.
