Assemblymember Gene Mullin, Chair of the Assembly Committee on Housing and Community Development, will hold a hearing on the role of the state in providing oversight of homeowners associations on Thursday, November 3, 2005 in the City of San Mateo Council Chambers, 330 West 20th Avenue in San Mateo.
“Over three million units one quarter of our state’s housing stock are Common Interest Developments (CID.) Each CID includes a board of directors that exercises many of the powers of a local government. There is no oversight of these organizations that wield considerable power over people's lives and homes” Mullin stated. “The California Law Revision Commission received an unprecedented public response when it studied Common Interest Developments. I’ve introduced legislation based on the Law Revision Commission’s proposal to create an Office of Ombudsperson to provide education and mediation in common interest developments. This hearing is another opportunity for CID homeowners, board members and managers to convey their opinions on CID oversight by the State of California.”
