Amendment To Bill Gives City Of Hayward Final Authority To Stop Eastshore Power Plant
Late July hearing planned in Assembly Utilities and Commerce Committee

HAYWARD - Assemblymember Mary Hayashi (D-Hayward) amended AB 1909 to apply only to the city of Hayward due the Eastshore power plant’s unique close proximity and encroachment upon the operations of the Hayward Executive Airport.  The bill will be heard in the Assembly Utilities and Commerce Committee in late July.

AB 1909 seeks to give the City of Hayward the final authority in determining if the Eastshore power plant complies with its local Laws, Ordinances, Regulations and Standards (LORS) as it relates to the operations of the airport and the safety of surrounding residents and businesses.

“The CEC has an enormous responsibility to ensure our state’s energy needs are met,” stated Assemblymember Hayashi.  “The major problem with the Eastshore Power Plant is its location adjacent to an established airport and a high-density urban area.   By amending AB 1909, it will allow the City of Hayward to heed the warnings from our transportation and safety officials and prohibit the power plant’s application from being certified.”

Assemblymember Hayashi currently serves the 18th Assembly District, which includes San Leandro, Hayward, Dublin, most of Castro Valley and Pleasanton, and a portion of Oakland, as well as the unincorporated areas of Ashland, Cherryland and San Lorenzo.
