SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Mary Hayashi (D–Hayward) has been appointed by Speaker Núñez as the Chair of the Select Committee on Community Colleges.

The Speaker also appointed the following committee members: Assemblymember Julia Brownley (D – Santa Monica), Assemblymember Mervyn Dymally (D – Los Angeles), Assemblymember Ted Gaines (R - Roseville), Assemblymember John Laird (D – Santa Cruz), Speaker Pro Tem Sally Lieber (D – Mountain View), Assemblymember Bill Maze (R - Visalia), Assemblymember Anthony Portantino (D - Pasadena) and Assemblymember Van Tran (R – Costa Mesa).

The select committee will focus on wide range of important issues including part-time faculty, the need to educate more health care providers, and workforce development programs.

Hayashi serves the 18th Assembly District, which includes Dublin, Hayward and San Leandro; all of the unincorporated areas of Ashland, Cherryland, and San Lorenzo; most of Castro Valley, Pleasanton and Sunol; as well as a portion of Oakland.
