Assemblymember Swanson Recognized for Supporting Working Families in 2007

(Oakland) – Tonight, the Alameda Central Labor Council recognized Assemblymember Swanson for his voting record in 2007. Mr. Swanson received a perfect score of 100% from the California Labor Federation, which ranked legislators according to their votes on certain labor-related bills.

"The Alameda Central Labor Council and the California Labor Federation are on the front lines, fighting for working Californians on a daily basis. The rights and welfare of working families are my top priorities as Chair of the Labor Committee, and I am humbled and honored that my work on these priorities in my first year is being recognized by these organizations," Mr. Swanson said.

In 2007, the California Labor Federation identified 32 bills that it determined would impact working families, for better or worse. Among the laws singled out by the organization were four by Mr. Swanson: Employee Lockout Protections (AB504), Family & Medical Leave (AB537), Choice of Law Forum (AB1043), and Access to Personnel Records (AB1707). All of the bills successfully passed both the Assembly and Senate. A copy of the report can be found at http://www.calaborfed.org/issues/scorecards.html . Senator Ellen Corbett (D-San Leandro) also received a 100% score, and was recognized at the event.

"Working families continue to face many challenges, particularly in these difficult economic times. From home foreclosures to rising health care costs, worries about education opportunities, both for their children and for themselves, it is clear that we still have much to do. As Chair of the Labor & Employment Committee, and as a member of the Assembly Budget Committee, I will continue to work with my partners in the labor movement to ensure that California gives working families the respect and support they deserve," Mr. Swanson stated.
