Alameda County’s 1st Transgender Town Hall Co-Sponsored by Assemblymember Sandré Swanson and other East Bay Elected Officials July 25th

(Oakland) – Access to quality healthcare is a vital issue for all Americans, however the transgender community faces unique and additional barriers. On Wednesday, July 25th, Assemblymember Swanson will join community leaders and other East Bay elected officials in sponsoring a town hall to explore county-wide solutions to the lack of adequate healthcare services that deliver to the specific needs of Alameda County’s transgender patients. This is the first event of its kind in Alameda County’s history.

The town hall is being planned by the Lighthouse Community Center, Tri-Cities Health Center, and the Berkeley Free Clinic with support from the Transgender Law Center.

Transgender Health Care Access Town Hall

When: July 25th, 2007, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Where:

Elihu M. Harris State Office Building Auditorium
1515 Clay Street, Oakland

Who:

Town Hall speakers include health policy leaders, health care providers, and transgender consumers who will share their experiences and ideas. Importantly, a panel of elected officials and health care providers will hear testimony from transgender community members about their experiences trying to access adequate services for their specific medical needs.
