June 1, 2007: Assemblymember Swanson, as a Member of the State Assembly Select Committee on Youth Violence Prevention, hosted a hearing at the Oakland Port Authority entitled "Youth Violence Prevention in Urban Communities: Solutions that Work".  Elected officials and representatives from law enforcement, social services, non-profit agencies, faith-based organizations, and youth groups met to discuss best practices and contribute to a statewide "toolkit" of policy practices aimed at reducing violent crimes among youth.  Above, Supervisor Keith Carson speaks to Congresswoman Barbara Lee and Assemblymembers Swanson, Caballero, Feurer, Hancock, and DeSaulnier, as well as members of dozens of stakeholder organizations about constructive approaches to violence prevention in the Bay Area. The Committee is chaired by Assemblywoman Anna Caballero (D – Salinas).
