Students Mourn the California Dream
Sacramento, C.A. On Wednesday, April 20th, Assemblywoman Loni Hancock (D-Berkeley) will join the University of California Student Association (UCSA) and the California State Student Association (CSSA) on this Statewide Day of Action. Press conferences and actions will be held on the State Capital and on campuses statewide calling attention to the Governor’s proposed cuts to higher education.
UC and CSU students will hold a funeral procession and eulogy for the California Dream at the California Capital. Assemblywoman Hancock will speak at a joint press conference on the impact the State’s debt burden and budget cuts will have on California’s students.
“For over 40 years, California has promised that every qualified student could attend one of our state’s public higher education institutions. We are breaking our promise to the young people whom we should be educating to be our future leaders,” said Assemblywoman Hancock.
Students will also attend and testify in the Assembly Budget Sub Committee Hearing on the impact that cuts to higher education and the rising cost in fees have had on their access to affordable education.
