Assemblymember Skinner: Call the Governor, Demand Responsible Action
(Sacramento) – While Democrats and Republicans in the Assembly are working together, taking bipartisan action to keep the state from paying its July bills with IOUs, the Governor’s “my way or the highway” attitude is threatening to force the state to the brink of bankruptcy. Assemblymember Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley) says it’s time for all Californians to call, write and e-mail the Governor and tell him his threatened veto of the bipartisan package of cash solutions is “reckless” and “irresponsible”. Here’s more in this Assembly Access video.

California is experiencing an unprecedented budget crisis. The economic recession has caused a precipitous drop in revenues leaving us with a $24 billion budget deficit. The legislature must act by June 30 to resolve this deficit and prevent bankruptcy. The Governor's solution is primarily cuts. I believe that cutting $20 billion or more will devastate our state.
Next10 has setup an innovative Budget Challenge that mirrors the decisions I will have to make in the next few weeks. The simulation contains accurate figures for the state's current revenues and expenditures, the Governor's proposed cuts as well as alternatives so that you can make your own choices.
The end of the Challenge allows you to send me your responses, so be sure to click on "Take Action". Your input will help guide my decisions.
I look forward to seeing how you balanced the budget and what difficult choices you made.
Thank you,
Nancy Skinner
