Assemblywoman Ma Announces the San Francisco Premiere of the Acclaimed Film "My Dream"

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The San Francisco premiere of the non-fiction documentary film “My Dream” will take place this Saturday, October 6. Assemblywoman Fiona Ma (D-San Francisco), who has long worked to advance the rights of persons with disabilities, and the actors will be available to speak to the media prior to the screening about this extraordinary production.  My Dream was produced by the Beijing Film Academy and the China Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe.  All of the 84 performers have some form of physical disability. Some cannot see, some cannot hear and speak, and some are physically disabled. All this hardship did not stop them from artistic expression.  The performers have traveled to more than 40 countries and have become a symbol and inspiration of for disabled people across the globe.

Also attending the event will be guests of several San Francisco disability organizations, including Toolworks and the Janet Pomeroy Center.  Toolworks is a human service agency dedicated to providing the tools and resources that promote independence, equality, and personal satisfaction.  The Janet Pomeroy Center provides recreation and vocational opportunities for people with disabilities that encourage self-expression, promote personal achievement, and lead to greater independence.

The China Disabled People's Performing Art Troupe was founded in 1987. The Performing Troupe bears the dreams of people with disabilities and creates a special art which delights audiences; purifies the soul with truth, honesty and virtue; encourages people by strong will; and delivers friendship with sincerity.
