Assemblymember Pedro Nava

Welcome

Thank you for visiting my website, where you can find additional information on my legislative priorities, committee assignments, professional background and much more.

As the Assembly Majority Whip, I am standing up for California as part of the Speaker's leadership team. We have been working to provide quality healthcare for every Californian, to expand educational opportunities, to keep our communities safe, and to protect our environment.

In addition, I have been focused on a number of important issues facing California. My Assembly Bill 1108 protects California's kids from toxic chemicals, and as the Chair of the Legislative High-Speed Rail Caucus, I am working to keep California's future on track. With my experience as a Certified Public Accountant, I am always watchful of California's bottom line and work every day to improve our state's fiscal health.

Please check in regularly to keep up with the progress we're making for Californians. Please also feel free to contact me (hyperlink on contact) to share your thoughts on any issue facing the Legislature.

Together, we can make California a better place to live, work, and raise a family.

In Peace and Friendship,

FIONA MA
Assembly Majority Whip

Assemblymember Ma: Prop 8 Decision is Unjust

(Sacramento) California State Assemblymember Fiona Ma (D-San Francisco) stood with many of her colleagues this week to voice her objection to the state Supreme Courts decision to uphold Proposition 8, the ban on same sex marriage. Assemblymember Ma said Prop 8 is not much different from the old laws that kept women from voting, that banned interracial marriage and that forbid Asians from owning property. Assemblymember Ma said the unjust ruling deserves a strong response to demand equal rights for all. Heres more in this Assembly Access video.

Legislation to Save JROTC Passed by Assembly Education Committee

(Sacramento) – Assemblywoman Fiona Ma’s legislation (Assembly Bill 223), which will require the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) to reinstate Junior ROTC in San Francisco public schools, passed out of the Assembly Education Committee on a 6-3 vote. “This program has a proven track record – over 90 years in SFUSD, over 90% of students from communities of color, over 90% of students go on to higher education,” said Assemblywoman Ma. “If no action is taken the program is at risk of being eliminated. During these tough economic times we should not be taking programs away from students - we should be providing more opportunities for students. ” Here’s more in this Assembly Access video.
