Californians Overwhelmingly Support Paid Sick Days Law

(Sacramento) – A new survey shows an overwhelming majority of Californians, regardless of their party affiliation, support paid sick days legislation. During a state capitol news conference Assemblywoman Fiona Ma (D-San Francisco), author of Assembly Bill 2716, a bill that would make California the first state in the country to allow all workers to earn paid sick days, said the poll shows 73% of California voters are in favor of a law allowing all workers to earn paid sick days. The poll was conducted by the Field Research Corporation for the California Center for Research on Women and Families (CCRWF), a program of the nonprofit Public Health Institute. Assemblywoman Fiona Ma teams up with Dave Roberts and the San Francisco Giants to beat Hepatitis B

The following public service announcement was aired during a Giants home stand that coincided with Hepatitis B Awareness Week in San Francisco. Assemblywoman Ma has been a leading advocate to bring awareness to this preventable disease that is often referred to as a "silent killer." Chronic Hepatitis B is a liver disease that can cause liver cancer, cirrhosis or liver failure -- without producing noticeable symptoms beforehand. As many as 1 in 10 Asian/Pacific Islanders in America and the prevalence of the disease in the Bay Area may be one of the reasons why the region has the highest rate of liver cancer in the country.
