| Assembly Member To Participate In Read Across America Day On March 2 |
|
MARTINEZ - This Friday, March 2, the National Education Association (“NEA”) will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its “Read Across America Day” campaign, in its effort to promote literacy across the country. Assembly Member Mark DeSaulnier has been asked to participate in the celebration by reading to kindergarteners at Monte Gardens Elementary School. “Reading is an adventure and access to a library is only a stones-throw away,” said Assembly Member DeSaulnier. “’Read Across America Day’ presents an opportunity to introduce our children to the magic of reading and set them on a path of discovery to last a lifetime,” DeSaulnier continued. The NEA intentionally chose March 2 for the campaign as it coincides with the birthday of Dr. Suess, a great author of children’s books whose works have inspired countless individuals to read. Assembly Member DeSaulnier will be a guest at Monte Gardens Elementary School, 3841 Larkspur Drive, Concord, on Friday, March 2 from 10:15 to 11:00 a.m. and will read to the class from a book by Dr. Suess at that time. “Reading opens up a world of ideas, brightens the imagination and focuses the mind,” DeSaulnier added. “Books are the keys to opportunity and I’m proud to be participating in ‘Read Across America Day,’” DeSaulnier concluded. |
