| DeSaulnier Appointed To Influential Assembly Committees, Transportation And Appropriations | |
MARTINEZ –Assembly Member Mark DeSaulnier (D-Concord) has been appointed to the Assembly Committees on Transportation, Appropriations, Human Services, and Labor and Employment. These appointments are in addition to the Assembly Member’s earlier appointment to the Committee on Rules which oversees amendments to the rules and matters relating to the business of the Legislature. “Traffic congestion causes concern throughout our Assembly district; Highway 4, and Interstates 680 and 80 cause frustration and keep working parents on the road rather than at home helping with homework or being engaged civically,” said DeSaulnier. “I thank the Speaker for this opportunity to use my experience with the Metropolitan Transportation Commission to ensure that the Legislature addresses transportation issues to decrease congestion in California, the Bay Area, and specifically Contra Costa,” finished DeSaulnier. Through his appointments on both the Appropriations and Transportation committees, DeSaulnier will play a key role in the allocation of funds from the Transportation Bond passed by voters as Proposition 1B in the November 2006 general election. DeSaulnier will use his experience in County government when serving on the Committees on Human Services, and Labor and Employment. DeSaulnier sponsored numerous initiatives on behalf of children and families, including the Contra Costa Children’s Report Card and the Children’s Accountability Act, both tools for evaluating children’s issues and the impact of county programs on children. He also established the annual Children and Families' Budget, a separate County budget that reviews and measures the effectiveness of County programs in these areas. |
