Jones Donates $1,000 to Help Bring NorCal Rapist to Justice

SACRAMENTO – On Saturday, December 9th, 2006, Assemblymember Dave Jones (D-Sacramento) announced that he will contribute $1,000 to the reward fund to catch a man authorities now call the “NorCal Rapist.”

On November 20th, the latest victim of the NorCal Rapist spoke out in front of community leaders, supporters, and local elected officials, including Assemblymember Jones, urging anyone who knows the rapist to turn him in. At this time, law enforcement also announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.

The Sacramento Police Department said the rapist is most likely responsible for at least nine rapes, with incidents reported in Sacramento, Davis, Chico, Vallejo, Martinez and Rohnert Park dating back to 1990. The rapist has been known to study and stalk his victims before he attacks. Seven of his victims have been petite Asian American women.

“For 16 years, this man has been free to commit heinous crimes against innocent women in our community. We need to come together to make Sacramento safer for all and I am willing to do as much as I can to contribute to these efforts,” says Jones.

Local organizations, such as the Asian Peace Officers Association and CAPITAL (Council of Asian Pacific Islanders Together for Advocacy and Leadership), have taken the charge in keeping this issue at the forefront of the community. Seeing the success of similar reward funds in the past, these organizations are looking for contributions to the reward fund in order to increase chances of finally bringing the NorCal rapist to justice.

If you would like to donate to the reward fund, please make checks payable to: APOA – Nor Cal Reward Fund, P.O. Box 221251, Sacramento CA 95822 (501c3 ID# 68-0370938). For more information, please call (916) 873-6938.
