Jones Advocates And Air Resources Board Adopts Clean Air Regulations At Hearing Thursday

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Dave Jones (D-Sacramento) today announced that the California Air Resources Board (CARB) adopted regulations that control pollution from large diesel generators responsible for 4 tons of particulate matter and 57-67 tons of NOX per year.

“Last year I introduced Assembly Bill 1220 to strengthen local air district regulation of heavy-duty diesel generators,” Jones said. “The bill had the effect of forcing the industry and CARB to the negotiating table. This consensus is a great example of industry and government working together to develop effective, efficient, and fair regulations to control pollution and protect public health.”

A workgroup conducted several months of intensive negotiations that resulted in proposed revisions to the statewide program that ensures equipment availability for inspection while limiting disruption to business activities, establishes streamlined record keeping and reporting, and provides an adequate fee structure to support field inspection efforts.

CAPCOA President Barbara Lee praised Assemblymember Jones for spearheading the effort to improve implementation of  the Portable Equipment Registration Program: “AB 1220 was the catalyst that brought regulators, business and industry to the table in a collaborative process to reach agreement on program changes that will ultimately result in greater emission reductions and more efficient implementation of the program for all stakeholders -- and Air Resources Board staff have done a wonderful job carrying that process into regulations.”
