Dave Jones Honored For His Consumer Protection Work

SACRAMENTO –  Assemblymember Dave Jones (D- Sacramento) received the First Annual Palladium Award from the California Alliance for Retired Americans (CARA) and the Center for California Homeowner Association Law (CCHAL) for his work protecting the financial safety of homeowners in associations.

CARA and CCHAL honored Jones for authoring Assembly Bill 1098 (2005) which establishes a homeowner’s right to inspect financial records in common interest developments.  AB 1098 identifies the type of financial records that must be made available, establishes deadlines for providing documents, and allows homeowners associations to protect information likely to lead to identity theft or fraud, or that is otherwise private.

“Your legislation, AB 1098, makes it much easier for homeowners to find out how their dollars are spent.  The Governor’s signature was barely dry on AB 1098, when homeowners began – successfully – using the law to protect themselves,” commented Nan Brasmer, President of CARA, when presenting the award to Assemblymember Jones.

“I am honored to receive this recognition for AB 1098,” said Assemblymember Jones. “I am glad that this legislation is making a difference in the lives of California homeowners.”

The California Association for Retired Americans is a statewide nonprofit organization that unites retired workers and community groups to advocate for social and economic justice and full civil rights. The Center for California Homeowner Association Law advocates for the expansion and protection of the rights of homeowners living in California associations.
