SACRAMENTO Assemblywoman Lois Wolk (D-Davis) wrote the Governor yesterday to request the addition of three Yolo County levee erosion sites to his list of sites in urgent need of repair. The three sites Wolk recommended be added to the list are Huff’s Corner on Cache Creek, which protects the City of Woodland, and two sites on the Sacramento River, River Mile 56.0 and River Mile 56.7, which protect the City of West Sacramento. “All three sites are in immediate need of repair and should be considered along with the other Yolo County sites already on your critical erosion sites list,” wrote Wolk. “As you well know, the levee system within the Sacramento River Flood Control Project is in dire straits as you so clearly stated as the basis for your declaration of a state of emergency for the entire system on February 24, 2006. “In your subsequent letter to President Bush informing his administration of your emergency declaration and forwarding to him the list of 24 critical erosion sites, you also asked him to focus on additional sites as they were identified. From my perspective, these three sites each fit logically within the entirety of the emergency levee work you are preparing to undertake in Yolo County as well as providing an even greater level of flood protection for the people of Woodland and West Sacramento,” concluded Wolk. Eight of the 24 critical erosion sites currently on the Governor’s list are in Yolo County.
