SACRAMENTO Assemblywoman Lois Wolk (D-Davis) announced today that she earned a perfect score on the National Association of Social Workers, California Chapter (NASW-CA) 2005 legislative scorecard, which grades Legislators’ voting records on bills impacting issues ranging from minimum wage to elder financial abuse. NASW-CA’s scorecard rates members of the state Senate and Assembly based on their votes on 20 key measures of high priority to the association for 2005including Senate Bill 1018 (Simitian), legislation coauthored by Assemblywoman Wolk to require banks and credit unions to report cases of elder and dependent adult financial abuse. The scorecard also reflects members’ votes on legislation to raise the minimum wage, give uninsured children in California access to health care, and implement comprehensive and federally recognized nutritional standards for foods sold in K-12 schools. “There is still more we can do to better provide for the basic needs of Californians,” said Wolk. “As a legislator, I am proud to work to improve the quality of life for our state’s citizens, from hard-working, low-income families, to our elders and children.” The National Association of Social Workers, the world’s largest membership organization of professional social workers, works to advance social policies and create and maintain the professional standards of its members.
