Wolk applauds Governor's call for federal aid

Thanks Governor for requesting federal assistance for Solano, Yolo flood victims

VACAVILLE– Assemblywoman Lois Wolk (D-Davis) today issued the following statement on Governor Schwarzenegger’s request to President Bush for federal disaster assistance for Solano and Yolo Counties:

“I applaud the Governor for his quick response. His request for federal assistance is great news to those in Solano and Yolo County who have suffered a loss due to recent storms.

I also thank the Governor for drawing special attention to Solano County’s losses in his letter. He cites the major flooding that closed Interstate 80 in Fairfield and the storm-related death that occurred in Vacaville as examples of our community’s ordeal-- and requests the highest level of federal individual assistance available for Solano County homeowners and businesses.

As I await the President’s final decision, I will continue working with my colleagues in the Legislature on AB 1798 (Berg), a bill I am co-authoring that will provide more state assistance to Solano and Yolo County, and a tax credit to homeowners and businesses who have experienced severe property damage.”

The Governor’s letter, sent yesterday to President Bush, requested a Presidential Declaration of a Major Disaster. The letter comes one week after a letter was sent by Wolk to the Governor, requesting his assistance in procuring federal aid for local flood victims.

The Governor’s request is available on his website at http://www.governor.ca.gov/govsite/pdf/press_release_2006/060117-Letter-PresidentialWinterStorms.pdf.
