Legislative hearing results in $41 million proposal for Solano County projects

Caltrans proposal would allocate funds to repave I-80/680 corridor

SACRAMENTO– Assemblywoman Lois Wolk (D-Davis) received word this week of a Caltrans proposal to spend $41 million to repave a stretch of the I-80/680 corridor.

The issue was raised at a hearing of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Transportation and Information Technology held in Fairfield last November at the request of Wolk, a member of the subcommittee. Following the hearing, Caltrans drafted a proposal to provide $41 million in funding for State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP) to repave a 15-mile section of I-80 through Fairfield and Vacaville.

“I am encouraged by this Caltrans proposal,” said Assemblywoman Wolk. “The I-80/680 corridor is vital to the movement of commuters and commerce in California. “I held the hearing to facilitate dialogue between the key players in transportation on the I-80/680 corridor and to get answers. I’m pleased with the results.”

In a letter to Wolk, Dixon Mayor and STA Chair Mary Ann Courville wrote of the Caltrans’ proposal: “These funds will be critical for Solano County to maintain this key corridor and ensure travel mobility and safety for our residents.”

“Having the hearing right here in Solano County to discuss area-specific transportation issues was integral in affording our elected officials and the public an opportunity to give the Committee direct input on our concerns,” Courville wrote.
