Wolk receives Association's Outstanding Assembly Member award |

| SACRAMENTO The California State Sheriffs' Association (CSSA) has recognized Assemblywoman Lois Wolk (D-Davis) with an Outstanding Assembly Member award for 2005 for her “continued support of law enforcement and advocacy for public safety issues in California.”
“This is a great honor,” said Wolk. “I am proud to have assisted the fine men and women who give so much of themselves in their service to our State and communities. California’s Sheriffs and other law enforcement put their lives on the line to make our streets, homes and lives safer. They are heroes, and they deserve our support.” The Sheriffs of Yolo and Solano Counties both applauded Wolk’s receiving the honor. “Assemblywoman Wolk is always supportive of law enforcement, especially the Rural Area Crime Taskforce, which works to prevent crimes against the agricultural industry,” said Ed Prieto, Yolo County Sheriff. “She pays attention to the needs of her district, at every level, and she is always willing to listen. “Lois also authored legislation with Senator Simitian mandating bank employees to report elder financial abuse to law enforcement. The bill, which just got signed by the Governor, makes sure that if a bank teller has suspicions of elder or dependant elder financial abuse, they notify the authorities with a phone call. The bill will help law enforcement circumvent any major losses to victims of financial abuse. I give Lois a lot of credit for the bill’s success.” “Lois has always been very supportive of our efforts to protect the community, and the California State Sheriff’s Association recognized that,” said Gary Stanton, Solano County Sheriff. “And she had the overwhelming support of the State’s 58 Sheriffs.” CSSA, a nonprofit professional organization comprised of the 58 sheriffs along with thousands of law-abiding citizens throughout the state, functions as a legislative watchdog for the county sheriff and sheriffs personnel as well as for citizens on professional and law enforcement issues. |
