| SACRAMENTO Assemblywoman Lois Wolk urged the Wildlife Conservation Board today to support a proposed $305,000 grant to the Grizzly Island Wildlife area in Solano County.
“Grizzly Island is a remarkable place, a large swath of incredibly valuable habitat benefiting untold numbers of species, which also happens to be in the midst of one of the fastest growing areas of the State,” wrote Assemblywoman Wolk in her letter to Al Wright, executive director of the Wildlife Conservation Board. “To protect this wonderful and wild space takes a lot of effort, not only on the part of the State, but with the help of all levels of government and a variety of nonprofit organizations as well.” The $305,000 grant would go to the California Waterfowl Association to be used in partnership with the Bureau of Reclamation and the Department of Fish and Game to do restoration and enhancement work in the Grizzly Island Wildlife Area. “This grant will go a long ways towards helping us maintain Grizzly Island, funding infrastructure improvements that are key to sustaining multiple environmental benefits for the future,” added Wolk. The grant is up for a vote at the Wildlife Conservation Board’s next meeting, scheduled to take place Thursday 25 in the First Floor Auditorium of the Resources Building, located at 1416 Ninth Street. |
