Woodland Chamber of Commerce supports Wolk Cache Creek Bill |
Legislation would protect and preserve stretch of Cache Creek in Yolo and Lake Counties |
| SACRAMENTO The Woodland Chamber of Commerce voted overwhelmingly yesterday to reverse their position and support legislation by Assemblywoman Lois Wolk (D-Davis) to designate 31-miles of Cache Creek a State Wild & Scenic River. The Chamber reversed its opposition to the bill after Wolk added amendments to address flood interests.
“I kept my word to the members of the Chamber board that I would work on amendments to address their concerns," said Wolk. “And they kept their word to remove their opposition and support the bill when I added the appropriate language. I’m very pleased that we have gotten to this point. It’s a win-win.” Assembly Bill 1328 would designate 31 miles of Cache Creek in Yolo and Lake Counties as a State Wild, Scenic and Recreational River, preserving and protecting in perpetuity the portion of Cache Creek spanning from just below the Clear Lake Dam to Camp Haswell at the upper end of the Capay Valley, as well as the creek’s north fork downstream from Highway 20. “We have seen a groundswell of support to protect Cache Creek from hundreds of individuals and dozens of organizations, and our numbers continue to grow,” said Assemblywoman Wolk. “I have kept my doors open to all interested parties, and in doing so have been able to resolve concerns about the bill.” Others recent supporters of the bill include State Congressman Mike Thompson (D-Napa Valley), the Lake County Board of Supervisors and White Water Adventures (a Cache Creek commercial rafting company) who moved from neutral to support positions. Yolo County Flood Control District, Cache Creek Conservancy and Woodland City Council also changed their positions, withdrawing their opposition to the bill. AB 1328 will next be heard in the Senate Committee on Appropriations. Among the bills many other supporters are the County of Yolo, the city of Davis, the city of West Sacramento, Woodland Democratic Club, Sierra Club Yolano Chapter, Cache Creek Wild, Sierra Club Mother Lode Chapter, Sacramento River Preservation Trust, Cache Creek Wild, Yolo Audubon Society, and hundreds of individuals. |
