A statement from Assemblywoman Lois Wolk (D-Davis) on U.S. Department of Defense base closure list: |
| I am extremely pleased by the Department of Defense’s decision to leave Travis Air Force Base off the base closure list. The decision recognizes the efforts of the community and the 15,000 men and woman who work so hard to make Travis the vital West Coast military installation it is today.
The case the community made to keep Travis off the list was clear Travis is a fundamental cornerstone of our nation’s defense system, and has played a vital role in humanitarian efforts and the country’s war against terrorism. Still our work is not done. We must remain vigilant until the base realignment and closure process is completely over. Travis is the lifeblood of this community. Losing Travis would not only mean losing the economic engine of Solano County, but also losing the thousands of men and women who contribute greatly to our community and make it a great place to live.” |
