California Park & Recreation Society names Assemblywoman Wolk to honor roll

New parks committee chair ranked among top-scoring legislators

SACRAMENTO - The California Park & Recreation Society has placed Assemblywoman Lois Wolk (D-Davis) on their 2003-2004 legislative honor roll for her voting record on legislation "of interest to park and recreation providers."

"It's an honor to be recognized," said Assemblywoman Wolk. "But the real honors go to the local parks and recreation professionals whose hard work and leadership enrich our communities, and to groups like the California Park & Recreation Society, which provide these professionals with resources and learning opportunities.

"As legislators, we must work to ensure that these valuable resources don't disappear in these tough budget times," Wolk added. "As the chair of the Assembly Committee on Water, Parks and Wildlife, I will work to protect our state's resources, parks, and programs for all Californians to enjoy."

With over 3800 members, the California Park & Recreation Society (CPRS) is the largest state park and recreation association in the United States.

The California Park & Recreation Society tracks legislation that:

  • Combats inactivity and obesity of Californians.
  • Provides for before and after school programs, positive youth sports, therapeutic recreation services and aquatics.
  • Responds to the needs of older adults.
  • Positively shapes our built environment.
  • Protects our natural resources and California's natural heritage.

"We are delighted that Ms. Wolk is the chair of the Assembly Water, Parks, and Wildlife Committee," said Barry Weiss, CPRS president. "Her past experiences as a local policymaker and her awareness of the importance of recreation, parks, and open space, position her as an effective leader in this area. We also applaud Ms. Wolk for her "Honor Roll" score on the 2003-04 CPRS Legislative Scorecard. We look forward to working with her."
