Wolk Receives Highest Mark as Children’s Advocate

Children’s Advocacy Institute Gives Wolk Highest Possible Score

SACRAMENTO - Assemblymember Lois Wolk (D-Davis) received the highest possible score by the Children's Advocacy Institute for her support of children- related legislation. The Children's Advocacy Institute, whose primary mission is to improve the status and well-being of children, based their results on seventeen key bills from the just completed 2004 Legislative Session.

Among the legislation were bills to reduce the number of uninsured children, give parents access to information regarding sex offenders in their neighborhoods, and legislation, which Wolk co-authored, to create an Infant and Toddler Care Master Plan to address unmet childcare needs.

"I am proud of my record on behalf of children," said Wolk, who also chaired the Human Services Committee, which had primary jurisdiction over several of the key bills listed by the Institute.

"It is important that we continue to provide a voice for the most vulnerable in our society – children and seniors," concluded Wolk. Earlier this year, the California Congress of Seniors also gave Wolk the highest score possible for her efforts on behalf of seniors.
