Merchant and Main’s Owner Honored by Assemblywoman Wolk

Bob Tooke receives recognition during “California Small Business Day”

Vacaville – Assemblywoman Lois Wolk (D-Davis) announced the California Small Business Association has selected Bob Tooke, owner of the Merchant and Main Grill and Bar in Vacaville, as the 8th Assembly District Small Businessman of the Year.

Tooke was honored during a luncheon in Sacramento yesterday and was invited to participate in discussions with key legislative leaders from the California State Assembly and Senate, and the Governor’s staff during the daylong celebration.

“Bob was one of the key small business leaders in my district leading the discussion on workers’ compensation reform,” said Wolk. “He took the initiative to bring a group of small businesses together to discuss their concerns with workers’ compensation and propose possible solutions.”

Tooke, who started out in the restaurant business 35 years ago as a busser, opened his own restaurant, which has been regarded as one of the best restaurants in Solano County, in 1985. He is a frequent contributor to his community and is currently involved in charitable events such as the Relay for Life and the Vacaville Public Education Foundation.

“It was a pleasure honoring Bob for his outstanding contribution to our community,” concluded Wolk. “Small business owners like Bob are the backbone of our community.”
