Wolk to Host Town Hall to Discuss Proposed Auto Insurance Rate Increase

Proposal before Insurance Commissioner would increase rates in Solano and Yolo Counties

VACAVILLE – Assemblywoman Lois Wolk (D-Davis) will host a town hall meeting on Monday, April 19th, in Dixon, to discuss the proposed regulations on auto insurance rating factors currently pending before the Insurance Commissioner, John Garamendi. If the proposed regulations are adopted, residents in Solano and Yolo Counties could see their insurance premiums significantly increased.

Wolk will be joined by the chair of the Assembly Insurance Committee, Juan Vargas, and a representative from the Insurance Commissioner’s office. The town hall will provide Solano and Yolo County residents an opportunity to hear details of the proposal and to raise questions and concerns.

Garamendi has held several hearings throughout the state on this issue, but has not held hearings in areas that would be adversely affected, which is why Wolk decided to hold a hearing.

“We need to air this proposal in communities where the impact would be greatest,” said Wolk. “The Legislature and the Insurance Commissioner need to hear from those people who will be hit hardest by this proposal. It’s a simple question of fairness.”

The hearing will be held from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., at the Dixon City Hall, located at 600 East A Street.
