Wolk applauds expedited I-80 repaving project

Pledges to continue efforts to improve conditions on major traffic corridor

SACRAMENTO–Assemblywoman Lois Wolk (D-Davis) issued the following statement today applauding Caltrans’ groundbreaking on a project to repave a crumbling section of Interstate 80 from Tennessee Street to American Canyon Road in Vallejo.

This is the first of four projects to repave 27 miles of I-80 from Tennessee Street in Vallejo to Leisure Town in Vacaville. The total project cost is $125 million in State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP) funding, $40 million of which Wolk was able to procure from state transportation officials. Wolk also obtained a commitment from Caltrans that the project would be completed two years ahead of schedule:

“This has been a long time coming. Conditions on this stretch of I-80 have been a problem for years, and were only exacerbated by storms and flooding. This repaving project is critical to my district, the safety of my constituents and the many Californians who use this severely damaged and heavily traveled traffic corridor,” said Assemblywoman Wolk.

"In November of 2006, voters approved a transportation bond that made money available for planned projects in my district that have been stalled for lack of funding. I will continue to work with the Solatno Transportation Authority and Caltrans to ensure that those funds are spent repairing and improving our state’s aging infrastructure, and to address the transportation issues that impact the lives of my constituents and all Californians.”
