Assemblywoman applauds comprehensive Delta Vision

With vision coming into focus, Wolk looks forward to taking next step

SACRAMENTO–Following the release of the third and final Delta Vision by the Governor’s Delta Vision Blue Ribbon Task Force, Assemblywoman Lois Wolk (D-Davis), chair of the Assembly Water, Parks, and Wildlife Committee, issued the following statement:

“I applaud the Blue Ribbon Task Force for their bold, comprehensive vision for the Delta. This is a major step toward a long-term, sustainable vision for the Delta.

I commend the task force for setting ecosystem restoration on equal footing with water supply, and for recognizing that neither can be accomplished without the other and that a sustainable Delta is critically important to the future of California.

Past proposals for the Delta have offered piecemeal, narrow solutions that failed to consider the complex and often competing demands on the Delta.  The key to the Delta’s survival and restored health lies in addressing all the pieces of the puzzle together as a whole, including ecosystem restoration, water conveyance, and responsible land use policies that can sustain the Delta and Delta communities for decades to come.

The task force has also tackled the challenge of preventing further development in the Delta’s deep floodplains, a necessary step if we want to keep our options open for flood and wildlife management.

The vision still needs further work, especially the establishment of strong and inclusive governance that will provide a way for decisions to be made that will provide for responsible stewardship of Delta resources.

As this vision comes into greater clarity, I look forward to working with the Blue Ribbon Task Force and all the local communities and stakeholders to make the vision real.   This will require continuous investment, teamwork and hard work by everyone.  All of us have a stake in the outcome.  The status quo is neither sustainable nor acceptable.
