“I am honored to accept the Speaker’s nomination, and to get to work preparing for California’s future water needs,” said Wolk, who chairs the Assembly Committee on Water, Parks and Wildlife. “Water is one of this state’s most valuable resources. California needs a comprehensive, long-term water plan if we are to provide our citizens with a safe and reliable water supply and address the needs of the Delta, the heart of this state’s water system. We cannot move forward without addressing the needs of this irreplaceable resource.” Núñez nominated Wolk to the water “working group” to tackle issues including water storage and supply. The Speaker appointed legislators to develop proposals on both water and health care, both topics that will be addressed during the special sessions to be convened during the Legislative interim. “These legislators will provide critical direction on these two crucial issues,” said Speaker Fabian Núñez (D-Los Angeles). “They represent the broad diversity of views in our caucus and are all committed to helping us achieve consensus with the Governor and the state Senate.” The legislators will be working with the Speaker during the special session on crafting legislation on both issues. They will begin meeting this week. The legislators appointed to the Assembly water working group: John Laird (D-Santa Cruz), Lois Wolk (D-Davis), Juan Arambula (D-Fresno), Mary Salas (D-Chula Vista), Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael), Paul Krekorian (D-Burbank), Mike Feuer (D-Los Angeles), and Mike Eng (D-Monterey Park). |
