Assembly, Senate unanimously OK Wolk bill honoring fallen Rio Vista officer

Bill names stretch of Route 12 the “Officer David Lamoree Memorial Interchange”

SACRAMENTO–The State Senate and Assembly both voted unanimously this week to approve legislation by Assemblywoman Lois Wolk (D-Davis) to honor fallen Rio Vista Police Officer David Lamoree.

Wolk’s bill names a stretch of State Highway Route 12 The Officer David Lamoree Memorial Highway after the young officer, who died as a result of a head-on collision nearly two years ago.

“David Lamoree was an outstanding officer whose dedication and compassion earned the respect and affection of his fellow officers. He knew at 10 years old that he wanted to be a police officer, and he committed his adult life to public service,” said Wolk. “David was born in Vallejo. He was a part of this community. His death was a great loss. By naming this stretch of highway for him, the community can honor him for his dedication to the police force and to those he served.”

Before joining the Rio Vista Police Department, Lamoree served for approximately three years with the San Pablo Police Department and six months with Solano County Community College.
On October 21, 2005, he was struck head on by a car attempting to pass a slow-moving truck as he drove home from work. He was taken off life support two days later, on his 26th birthday.

Chuck Lamoree, the officer’s father, expressed appreciation for the resolution and Assemblywoman Wolk’s efforts.

“The leadership that she has provided in this and other matters relative to Highway 12 has been exemplary,” he said. “Without her efforts, I don’t think we would be seeing any of the improvements on Highway 12.”

Assembly Concurrent Resolution 7, which was sponsored by the Solano Transportation Authority, now must be filed with the Secretary of State to take effect.
