Wolk goes to Washington to testify on flood protection, water policy

To meet with key congressional leaders to build partnerships benefiting California

SACRAMENTO– Assemblywoman Lois Wolk (D-Davis), chair of the Assembly Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee, departed for Washington , D.C. , today to testify before a House Committee and meet with members of California ’s Congressional Delegation.

Wolk will testify Thursday before the House Subcommittee on Water and Power at the invitation of the subcommittee’s chair, Congresswoman Grace Napolitano. Napolitano invited the assemblywoman to testify, hoping to encourage a dialogue on the key issues that the California Legislature is grappling with, and how Congress can help.

“With the passage of our infrastructure bonds this November, we have the opportunity to make significant investments in flood protection, water supply, and environmental protection,” Wolk said. “We can chart a new course in water policy and flood protection issues, and we can do it together, not as adversaries. This is about coordinating our policy efforts so that we can best combine our state and federal dollars and policy decisions to achieve our shared goals. I am very encouraged by our preliminary discussions and I am hopeful this effort will be productive.”

In addition to her testimony, Wolk will meet with local congressional representatives as well as Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer and the chairs of key policy committees, and will also address a meeting of California ’s Democratic delegation.

She will return to California late Thursday evening.
