Santa Rosa Students Learn Key Steps to College Access and Success
Campaign for College Opportunity and Assemblywoman Noreen Evans (D-Santa Rosa) Bring National "KnowHow2Go" effort to Sonoma County youths

(Santa Rosa, CA) – On Thursday, April 19, Santa Rosa High School students and their families will learn how to better prepare for and finance their college education, as part of a statewide effort by the Campaign for College Opportunity (CCO), and a local effort by the Office of Assembly Member Noreen Evans (D-Santa Rosa) too help student’s “KnowHow2Go.”

The events other sponsors and participants are the national KnowHow2Go campaign, Santa Rosa High School, Santa Rosa Interfaith Ministerial Association, Santa Rosa Junior College, and Sonoma State University.

“Less than 20 percent of 9th graders make it through the college pipeline — enrolling and then graduating,” says Michele Siqueiros, Associate Director for the Campaign for College Opportunity. “The KnowHow2Go campaign is reaching out to students to empower them to proactively prepare and get into college, giving them the tools to succeed once they’re there.”

The local event is part of the national KnowHow2Go ad campaign. KnowHow2Go, sponsored by the Lumina Foundation, the American Council on Education and the Ad Council, is using a mix of broadcast and print ads, scholarship contests and youth-led community meetings to spread practical advice on necessary steps for entering and paying for college. The sponsors hope to educate students and families, and dispel myths related to higher education.  To view the ads, visit: www.knowhow2go.org.

“Education is the great equalizer in our society,” says Evans.  “For most, higher education is the ticket to the middle class.  Students with more education and skills will have better opportunities and higher incomes in life.”
