Cline Cellars Honored with Sustainable 6 Award
Sonoma Company Celebrated for its ecologically sound business practices

Sonoma, CA - Assemblymember Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) announced his monthly Sustainable 6 award to Cline Cellars of Sonoma for their outstanding, ecologically sound and sustainable business practices.

Huffman selected Cline Cellars for utilizing solar technology to provide 100% of the winery's electricity needs and employing organic, sustainable farming and water management techniques in wine production.

Founded by Fred Cline in 1982 on his grandparent’s property in Oakley, Fred and his wife Nancy moved the winery to Sonoma County in 1991, where they produce many award-winning, distinctive Rhône-style wines and intense, flavorful Zinfandels with winemaker Charlie Tsegeletos. In 2007, Cline Cellars 2004 Sonoma Zinfandel was rated 91 points by the Wine Spectator, the 2004 Bridgehead Zinfandel was rated 90 points; and the 2004 Ancient Vines Mourvèdre was named “One of the top 100 values of the Year” in Wine & Spirits, June 2007 issue.

“I’m honored to present this award to a company with an environmentally friendly and comprehensive approach to making fine wines,” said Huffman. “Cline’s ability to become energy independent while utilizing sustainable farming practices in their winemaking business deserves accolades.”

Huffman and staff toured the facilities in full daylight and viewed the solar panels designed by SolarCraft services that cover the winery’s 50,000 square foot roof with almost two thousand Sharp solar panels.

“I am honored to accept this award on behalf of the entire staff at Cline Cellars,” said founder Fred Cline.  “We do what we can to make great wine without negative impact to health or the environment, and I look forward to sharing our sustainable practices with others.”
